During the past week, readers sent me questions about reports of damage or destruction of certain wineries. I contacted the winemakers or communication directors to clear up what were incorrect reports.

Regarding damage to Stags Leap Winery and Chateau St. Jean, Brent Dodd, national communication director for Treasury Wine Estates, the Austrialian company that owns Stags Leap Winery and Chateau St Jean, responded to my email: “Overall, Stags’ Leap and Chateau St. Jean Wineries are still standing and relatively unscathed through the heroic efforts of our local, regional and national first responders.”

Chimney Rock winery in the Stag’s Leap District was reported damaged. Megghen Driscol, from the communications department of corporate owner Terlato Wine Group, replied:

Hi John,

I’m sending you an update on Rutherford Hill and Chimney Rock (which has widely been reported as destroyed – but most certainly is not).  I saw it first-hand on Tuesday.  All the roads were closed so cars were not allowed in but a few of us hiked in through the backwoods and vineyards to visually inspect for ourselves so it’s been 100% verified.   I’m evacuating soon but am available on cell if you have questions.

Thanks,

Meg
